Horizon Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 18, 2026
Horizon ("the App") is a driving-logger application for Android developed by daFruits Studio, Inc. It helps learner's permit holders track their driving sessions, recording hours driven under various conditions (daytime, nighttime, and bad weather) against per-state requirements in the United States.
This privacy policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, stored, and shared. Please read it carefully.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information You Provide
- Driver name — the name you enter when creating a driver profile.
- State selection — the US state you choose to determine driving-hour requirements.
- Drive session details — when you manually create or edit a drive, you provide the date, start time, duration, and optional tags (e.g., Highway, Rainy, Snowy).
b. Information Collected Automatically During Drives
When you start a tracked drive and have granted the necessary permissions, the App automatically collects:
- Location data — precise GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude), altitude, speed, and accuracy. Location is collected at regular intervals (approximately every 5–15 seconds) only while a drive is actively in progress.
- Weather conditions — current weather at your location (temperature, precipitation, wind, visibility), fetched periodically during the drive via the Google Weather API.
- Drive metrics — total distance, duration, nighttime duration, and bad-weather duration, calculated from the location and weather data above.
- Route characteristics — the App analyzes your route to detect highway driving and other characteristics.
c. Advertising
- Banner ads — the App displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. All ads are non-personalized; no user profile is built for ad targeting.
- Technical data collected by AdMob — as part of standard ad serving, AdMob may collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system version, IP address (used for approximate geographic relevance), and ad interaction events (e.g., whether an ad was viewed or tapped). This data is handled by Google in accordance with its privacy policy.
d. Analytics & Crash Data
- Usage analytics — the App uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous information about which screens are viewed and high-level driving events (e.g., a drive was started or stopped). These events do not include your name, location, or any personally identifiable information.
- Crash reports — the App uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs and stack traces when the App encounters an error. These reports may include device model, operating system version, and app state at the time of the crash. They do not include your driving data or location.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Driving log tracking — to record your drives, calculate hours driven, and show your progress toward your state's requirements.
- Route display — to show a map of your drive route using the Google Maps SDK.
- Weather recording — to determine whether a drive occurred during bad weather conditions, using the Google Weather API.
- Night detection — to calculate nighttime driving hours based on sunrise and sunset times at your location.
- Advertising — to display non-personalized banner ads via Google AdMob and to measure ad performance.
- App improvement — to understand how the App is used (via anonymous analytics) and to fix crashes (via crash reports).
- PDF export — to generate a driving log document that you can share at your discretion.
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google Maps SDK — receives your location coordinates to display maps and drive routes. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Weather API — receives your location coordinates to fetch current weather conditions. Google Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Analytics — receives anonymous usage events (screen views, driving events). No personally identifiable information is sent. Firebase Privacy.
- Firebase Crashlytics — receives crash reports including device information and stack traces. Firebase Privacy.
- Google AdMob — serves non-personalized banner ads within the App. AdMob may receive limited device information, IP address, and ad interaction data for ad delivery and performance measurement. No personally identifiable information or location data is shared for ad purposes. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Play In-App Updates — checks whether a newer version of the App is available. Google Privacy Policy.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. The third-party services listed above receive only the minimum data necessary to provide their functionality.
4. Data Storage & Security
- On-device storage — all driving data (driver profiles, drive sessions, location records, and weather records) is stored locally on your device in the App's private database. This data is not uploaded to our servers or any cloud service.
- No cloud backup — the App has cloud backup disabled. Your driving data is not backed up to Google Drive or any other cloud storage.
- No account required — the App does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address.
- Location collected only during drives — location data is collected only while a driving session is actively in progress. The App does not track your location in the background at any other time.
5. Data Sharing & Disclosure
- PDF export — you may choose to export your driving log as a PDF and share it using your device's standard share functionality. This is entirely user-initiated; the App does not share this data automatically.
- No data selling — we do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal data to outside parties.
- Legal compliance — we may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.
6. Your Rights & Choices
Permissions
The App requests the following permissions, all of which you can grant or deny:
- Location (Fine & Background) — required for GPS tracking during drives. If denied, the App cannot record route data, accurately calculate night hours, or fetch weather conditions. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device's Settings.
- Notifications — used to show a persistent notification while a drive is being recorded. If denied, drives may not track reliably in the background.
Data Deletion
You can delete individual drive logs or entire driver profiles (along with all associated records) directly within the App. Deleted data is permanently removed from the on-device database.
Uninstalling the App
Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data from your device.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
8. Android Auto
The App supports Android Auto, allowing you to start and stop drives from your car's display. The same data practices described in this policy apply when using the App through Android Auto. No additional data is collected.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
